About the Motorcycle Views Web site

By Walter F. Kern

Walter Kern I spent seven and a half years as the Motorcycles Guide on About.com beginning in 1999. Now I'm branching out on my own. I'm still writing articles and features about motorcycles. The Motorcycle Views site presents my views on motorcycles.

I created the Motorcycle Views Blog on January 4, 2007.

The Motorcycle Views Web site , containing my growing list of motorcycle content, was established on January 11, 2007.

The Motorcycle Views Forum was established on February 17, 2007.

Finally, the first weekly issue of the Motorcycle Views Newsletter was issued on February 25, 2007. I ceased publication of the newsletter on June 30, 2013 but decided to restart it on September 28, 2014 on a bi-weekly basis. It became monthly in June, 2016 and quarterly in July, 2018.

Walt taking in the View at Americade I've been an avid motorcycle enthusiast since 1989. My late wife, Jane ( see tribute ), and I started riding motorcycles after we were 50 years old. We each learned on a 1981 Honda CM400T. I currently ride a 2000 Honda Gold Wing w/Motor Trike conversion.

I'm a member of the American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) and I've completed the beginner's and experienced rider's classes offered by the Motorcycle Safety Foundation and have also taken several trike safety classes.

Currently I belong to the Polar Bear Grand Tour . I created and manage their Web site. I also belong to NJ Chapter F ( F Troop ) of the Gold Wing Road Riders Association (GWRRA).

Jane and I took our first long ride on a 6000 mile tour from New Jersey to the Grand Tetons in 1993. We rode twin 1990 red Honda Pacific Coast motorcycles. We attended a Rider Rally in Cody, WY and the Sturgis Rally in SD on that same trip. Since then, we attended many rallies including the Americade Rally in Lake George, NY every year from 1994-2008.
